on a dreary evening in kirkland, i employed a friend to come check out the newest eatery in town that cohabited the prior space of many restaurants past (szmania and mixtura being the most recently deceased).  i’d walked by many times since its opening last december, and the firepit table always drew my eye (who isn’t wowed by the sight of open flames indoors??)  upon entering the hazy den, i was immediately drawn to the expansive metal tree sculpture sprawled behind the bar, each branch bearing the fruit of a tequila bottle.  next pleasant surprise? they serve fernet!!  not to say that they are well versed in fernet cocktails, or that the waitresses will even understand what you’re ordering (one referred to a fernet and coke as a “drink thingy”), but for kirkland, that’s impressive enough.
